Sustainability
More than a principle, a daily practice
At Mainova, we believe that the agriculture of the future is built with respect for the land, people and natural cycles. That is why, at Herdade da Fonte Santa, all our decisions — from the field to the bottle — are guided by conscious and sustainable practices.
Purposeful Agriculture
In our vineyards and olive groves we follow two production methods: Integrated Production and Organic Production .

Integrated production
Integrated production is based on good agricultural practices that value the natural mechanisms of the ecosystem, minimizing the use of chemicals and reducing environmental impact. This model promotes soil balance, the well-being of local fauna and flora, and focuses on efficient resource management, with ongoing team training.

Organic Production
Organic production goes further in restricting the use of external factors, prioritizing resources internal to the agricultural system. We work with a high level of environmental requirements, promoting biodiversity and respecting the natural cycles of the earth.
In our vineyards and olive groves we follow two principles: Mainova is also part of the European project Olivares Vivos , which evaluates and values the positive impact
of agriculture in biodiversity — a firm step towards a regenerative and resilient model.

Clean energy and circularity
We generate part of our own energy through solar panels , reducing the carbon footprint of the winery and agricultural operations. We also have a WWTP (Wastewater Treatment Plant) that allows us to reuse the water used in the winery to irrigate the olive grove and vineyard.
Packaging with conscience

Just as we care for the earth, we care about the choices we make in the packaging of our products:
- Wine bottles weighing just 370 grams , significantly lighter and with less environmental impact
- 100% recycled and recyclable glass
- Labels and boxes with recycled paper or with a high percentage of cotton
- FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council) on shipping boxes
- Seals instead of capsules on wine bottles
- Recycled paper adhesive tape, plastic free
- Biodegradable and biological packaging film
- Bag-in-Box with 60% less plastic than the traditional bottle
- Reusable ceramic bottle, made in Portugal, with recycled glass
Production with minimal intervention

We produce our wine in our own winery, which allows us to be involved in the entire production process, ensuring the least possible waste of resources. Our production process involves minimal human intervention, respecting natural development through gravity filling of the tank and press, spontaneous fermentation and low sulphur levels. We have a WWTP (Wastewater Treatment Plant), which allows us to treat domestic and industrial wastewater, allowing us to use this water to irrigate the olive groves and vineyards.

Produced in a specialized mill, it allows us to be close to technicians, ensuring more responsible and quality production.
By producing Extra Virgin Olive Oil cold, in addition to obtaining better quality olive oil, it is possible to reduce energy consumption.
